ROATAN ISLAND, HONDURAS

ABOUT
FRIENDS OF  ROATAN

We are all volunteers who were introduced to Roatan through our Church, fell in love with the people and have been doing our best to help with various desperately needed programs.

PAST, PRESENT  & FUTURE.

Roatan is a typical Caribbean island in the respect that it is almost solely dependent on tourism for income. COVID locked down the island. No tourism. No income. No income. No food.

We are blessed with reliable, hard-working contacts on the island and faithful supporters. In August of 2020 we began food distribution programs in Flowers Bay and West End. Both Serena’s Gethsemane and Bethesda Methodist churches are the sources of support and distribution. After a slow start of providing sacks of food for forty families in both towns every two weeks we were able to increase the output to eighty sacks of food in each town once a week.

Our teams of volunteers on the island in Flowers Bay and West End have also prepared food for people in other areas of the island such as Crawfish Bay and Sandy Bay.

In the last few months are numbers have gone down again as funding has waned a bit. But recent fund-raising efforts are proving successful and distributions have picked up again.

None of us are sure what the next year will bring. Our hope is to return to the island late this year, but everything depends on COVID. If not this year, we will plan for January of 2022.

HOW WE HELP: OUR PROGRAMS.

We have limited resources and help where we can. We maximize our resources with local volunteers and church groups and have been able to help in a variety of ways.  Click the pictures below to see a few of our programs.
